WHO WE ARE:
With the wealth of design talent in E17, we have very beautiful things on our doorstep – from jewellery and ceramics to fashion and knitwear, from prints and stationery to soft furnishings and accessories.
The E17 Designers’ network was first founded a decade ago, by Ali Reader (Number 6), Clare Tomlinson (Little Mashers) and Carolyn Abbott to help local designers sell and promote their work. The first E17 Designers’ Market was held outdoors on the Village Square, opposite this shop (fortunately, it didn’t rain). Since then we have organised events at venues across the borough – in shops, church halls, museums and galleries, and at festivals including the E17 Art Trail, the Leytonstone Art Trail and Walthamstow Garden Party. Over 100 different designer-makers have shown off their work at over 60 events in 10 years.
ARE YOU A DESIGNER/MAKER LIVING OR WORKING IN WALTHAMSTOW?:
Members of E17 Designers benefit from priority booking at events, promotion via our large and lively social media presence, regular members’ news, networking meetings and their own dedicated webpages at e17designers.co.uk.
E17 Designers is a community, supporting and encouraging the people who are involved in it. If you would like to know more, email firstname.lastname@example.org or via the website.

Eleanor Crow: Passing Trade
8-30 October 2016
100 watercolours celebrating some of the best small shopfronts in East London. You’ll find butchers, bakers and candlestick makers aplenty, in these brightly detailed little representations.
Ahead of a planned book, this October sees a selection of Eleanor Crow’s intricate watercolours of East London shopfronts being exhibited in an actual East London shopfront – the Walthamstow Village Window Gallery.
Featuring 100 small artworks on paper, the work – through consistency of viewpoint and observational detail – shows the wealth of creativity in neighbourhood shopfronts, and the devices employed to attract customers to these small businesses that are part of the urban landscape.
Crow’s work brings a fresh new approach to topographical painting and, in addition, forms an important reportage document of some of East London’s finest small shops, some of which have closed since the project began, while many of which are still open and going strong.
Crow’s work has been featured in Étapes magazine’s East London issue, Time Out’s London blog, It’s Nice That, and in the W Project’s publication The Journey is the Treasure, featuring key female creatives, as well as proving hugely popular online on top London culture blog Spitalfields Life.
The gallery is viewable entirely from the pavement and is child/dog/cycle/wheelchair friendly. Open daily during daylight hours and lit until midnight.

Look Up / Geometry, Line, Pattern, Colour
3-25 Sept 2016
Meet the artists evening Thursday 8 Sept 7-9pm
An exhibition of affordable prints by fifteen handpicked artists and designers whose work explores and celebrates the creative potential of geometry, line, pattern and colour.
Based in Walthamstow, Look Up is an online print gallery and a platform for promoting both well and lesser known artists. Our exhibition at the Walthamstow Village Window Gallery features exclusive limited edition screen prints and digital prints, one by each of the 15 artists on our roster. The exhibition represents our debut on the E17 art scene.
Look Up launched in July 2016 with a collection of thirty-five exclusive limited edition prints by artists including Frea Buckler and Sophie Smallhorn – both of whom featured in the 2016 Royal Academy Summer show, and Mark McClure – a Walthamstow-based artist whose geometric murals can be seen throughout E17 and further afield, including a vast public artwork in the Olympic Park.
Our launch collection also features work by: Kate Banazi – a Sydney-based printmaker with a growing reputation; Yann Brien – a French printmaker based in London; Bonnie Craig – a visual artist and designer based in Lancaster; artist, designer and ceramicist William Edmonds; silkscreen artist extraordinaire Kate Gibb; Fiona Grady – an artist who specialises in site specific installations; graphic artist and designer Chris James; graphic artist Sam Kerr; Josie Molloy – who recently completed a prestigious Printmaking Fellowship at the Royal Academy Schools; Cork-based visual artist and designer Nounua; up-and-coming graphic artist Charlie Patterson; and Supermundane, aka Rob Lowe, whose practice encompasses everything from typeface design, t-shirts and self-published books to sculptures, paintings and prints.
